Advocacy & Systemic Change
At Dinkum Disability, we believe that everyone deserves fair and equitable access to the supports they need—but too often, NDIS participants are forced to fight for funding, appeal unfair decisions, and navigate a system that doesn’t always work in their best interests.
Beyond providing Occupational Therapy assessments, we are committed to advocacy and systemic change to ensure that people with disabilities aren’t just heard—but that their needs are recognised, respected, and met with meaningful action.
Listen to Jack
In 2024, I launched Listen to Jack, a campaign calling for urgent NDIS reform after witnessing firsthand the systemic failures that denied my lived experience consultant and close friend, Jack, the support he needed.
Jack was a dedicated, hardworking young man who, like so many NDIS participants, faced unnecessary delays, denials, and bureaucratic barriers that made it harder for him to live independently and engage fully in his life. Despite following every requirement, submitting all the right evidence, and doing everything asked of him, he was repeatedly let down by the system that was meant to support him.
His story was not unique. Too many people face the same exhausting battles, fighting not just for funding but for the basic right to live with dignity and independence.
Listen to Jack was created to call attention to these failures, demand accountability, and push for a system that truly listens to the people it was designed to support.
As the campaign gained national attention, my advocacy work expanded to include:
Open letters to government officials and decision-makers, highlighting systemic failures and calling for urgent reform.
Media engagement, including radio interviews and news articles, to share Jack’s story and amplify the voices of others facing similar struggles.
Community advocacy, mobilising people with disabilities, families, and professionals to push for change within the NDIS.
Jack’s story deserves to be heard—just as every NDIS participant’s story deserves to be told. Listen to Jack is about more than one person—it’s about fighting for a system that truly listens.

A Bigger Picture: Ongoing Advocacy
My advocacy work goes beyond Listen to Jack. I continue to fight for:
✔ Stronger accountability within the NDIS—ensuring decisions are made fairly and with lived experience in mind.
✔ Equitable access to therapy and supports—so people don’t have to fight just to get what they need.
✔ A system that listens to the people it’s meant to serve—recognising the value of individual experiences.
I engage in:
📰 Media & Public Awareness – Discussing NDIS challenges & reforms through news, radio, and social media.
📢 Speaking Engagements – Presenting at disability sector events and community forums.
📨 Direct Advocacy – Engaging with government & policymakers to push for change.
