Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is a Functional Capacity Assessment and do I need one?
A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a detailed Occupational Therapy report that provides evidence for your NDIS plan. It assesses your daily function, support needs, and goals, helping to justify funding for services, assistive technology, and home modifications. If you’re going through a plan review, change of circumstances, or appeal, an FCA may help support your case.
What types of reports do you provide?
I specialise in NDIS reports, including:
Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA) – Assessing daily function and support needs.
Housing & SDA Reports – Supporting applications for home modifications or Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).
Assistive Technology (AT) Reports – Justification for equipment such as wheelchairs, hoists, or communication devices.
Change of Circumstances Reports – Evidence for increased support hours or changes in care needs.
Minor Home Modifications (MHM) Reports – Justification for small home modifications under $20,000.
How long does the assessment take?
The assessment refers to the face-to-face or online session where I gather information about your daily function, support needs, and goals. This typically takes between 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on complexity. Assessments may also involve additional discussions with support workers, family members, or other therapists to ensure all relevant information is captured.
How long does the report take to complete?
After the assessment, I complete a detailed and evidence-based report, which includes clinical reasoning, recommendations, and justification for NDIS funding. Report writing is a thorough process, often taking up to 10 to 15 hours, depending on complexity.
Reports are typically completed within 4 to 6 weeks of the assessment. If you have an urgent deadline, please let me know as soon as possible so we can discuss timeframes.
Can you help if I’ve had a previous report rejected by the NDIS?
Yes. If a previous report didn’t provide enough evidence for funding, I can review your situation, complete a new assessment, and ensure your report clearly outlines your needs with strong clinical reasoning that meets NDIS requirements.
What should I bring to my assessment?
To make the process smoother, please bring:
Your current NDIS plan (if available).
Any previous assessments or reports.
A support person (if you’d like assistance or additional input).
What happens if I need multiple reports?
If you require more than one type of report (e.g., FCA and Assistive Technology Report), I can often complete them in the same assessment session, reducing the need for multiple appointments. However, report writing times may vary depending on the complexity of your needs.
How do I pay for my assessment?
Invoices are issued after the assessment and reporting is completed and must be paid before the final report is released. I currently accept payments through NDIS plan-managed or self-managed funding. If you have questions about billing, feel free to ask before booking.
Unfortunately I am not able to accept NDIA-managed participants at this time.
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
If you need to reschedule or cancel your assessment, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice so I can offer the appointment to someone else.
Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice may incur a fee.
Missed appointments (no-shows) will be charged the full assessment fee.
Do you charge for travel?
Yes, travel is charged at a flat rate based on location to cover time and expenses. The travel fee will be confirmed at the time of booking.
I currently provide in-person assessments across:
📍 Sunshine Coast
📍 Brisbane
📍 Other locations by request (travel fees apply)
If you are outside these areas, I may be able to offer an online assessment, depending on the type of report required.
